We've all heard the saying "bigger is better," but unless we're talking about Texas or bank accounts, the phrase doesn't really prove itself to be true in most cases. Made famous by the likes of Minnie Mouse, Ms. Pac-Man, and the all-American cheerleader, hair bows have cemented their position in history as the motif for clean-cut, wholesome girls. However, the recent trend has been revived by the rebels in the fashion world, which including trendsetters Madonna and Lady Gaga.

The Fall 2009 and Resort 2010 collections of Anna Sui, Diane von Furstenburg, Louis Vuitton, and Dolce & Gabbana upped the ante on headwear by sending hair bows down the runways.

When determining whether the hair bow should or should not be used in the mainstream, let us never forget that it is an accessory made famous by a cartoon character. And just pray that it doesn't end up as an accessory mistake of the 80's such as the scrunchie. RIP Scrunchies.
